Gurudeva: First of all we have to know ourselves. When we know ourselves, we can understand and know the Absolute Truth. From 1st to 6th chapter in Bhagavad-Gita it is described the difference between material and spiritual, who we are and how we can know ourselves. When we know ourselves, false ego will disappear. Only with sadhu sanga, guru kripah and association with Vaishnavas we can develop and realize who we are. When we have the mercy of Gurudeva, then our lust will be with less intensity and it will be easier to perceive the mood of Goswamis and the Divine Couple. Before that, when we are in lust, it is not possible to perceive anything spiritual. We have to be aware about what is the centre of our body and what is the centre of the universe! The centre of our body is the soul and the centre of the universe is God.
Question: How we can love, if we don’t know the person (God)? Gurudeva: Do you know yourself? The person who asks this question is in unconsciousness. How can we love when we don’t know ourselves? When we don’t know who we are, we cannot have relationship with Krishna and without relationship, there is no love.
Question: Do we have to live all life with our false ego? Gurudeva: When we live in the Absolute Truth, in the consciousness of jiva, then there is no ego! Then we are in Krishna consciousness. This is the purity, the truth, there are no false things (falsity!). If we want to come to Krishna, we have to become pure because Krishna is pure!
Question: In the spiritual world, do we also have the ego? For example, when the gopas are saying that they will help Krishna, when He had Goverdhana on His finger? Gurudeva: No, in the spiritual world there is no ego. These actions are only the manifestations of love. They want to help Krishna, because of love, this is Bhakti, love in action. Devotee: Prabhupada says that we cannot understand Bhakti Yoga with our intelligence or mind, we have to feel it. We have to be active to achieve Bhakti Yoga. We have to: Listen, Chant, Remember Krishna Gurudeva: But if we don’t know ourselves, practise can make confusion. Someone can achieve power and the person doesn’t know how to use it, or worse, the person uses it in negative way. If someone after many years decide to go out of the Krishna consciousness, it means that the person was never Krishna conscious. Devotee: Once in Rome, someone asked our Gurudeva “What is the symptom of a person who is Krishna conscious?” And Gurudeva answered “A person who is in the Krishna consciousness feels him/herself very small. Because that person knows how big Krishna is, the person respects all, no matter in which state of consciousness they are. They are free from envy! And want to always be together with the Guru and Vaishnavas, because they are free from envy and criticism of others. (Trinad api sunicena… We have to become tolerant as a tree!) Gurudeva: The Guru teaches devotees. We have to trust in our Guru. And we have to follow his advices/instructions, because he knows what is good for us. He will liberate us with his mercy. The Guru will always give us mercy. Lecture given: 3rd march 2008 in Sardegna, Italy |
